I mostly agree with what you're saying except for the comment about publications geared towards minorities. The majority of any society will always have their opinion/point of view/interests etc. discussed in mainstream media. The same cannot be said for minorities. Most publications that are geared towards these minority groups are there to fill a void. It's also not exclusive to race.

Just for familiarities's sake I'll compare publications I know about. If XXL Magazine (a Hip Hop pub) is directed squarely at the perceived interests or traditional culture of young Blacks and Rolling Stone Magazine is directed squarely at the perceived interests or traditional culture of young Whites, then it would seem to me that the only thing happening there is a catering of information to a niche group.

Clearly the NY Times, Washington Post or any other mainstream American outlets won't cover most of what's covered in those magazines even when it's not music related. Rolling Stone, for one, has always had their own independent investigative reports that go in-depth on topics their audience, in particular, cares about.

I wouldn't say either magazine is contradicting an anti-segregationist attitude, they're just trying to serve a purpose to people who don't get what they want from mainstream press.

"White News" is essentially what mainstream media is, at least in the Western world, it's just that nobody says it. If mainstream outlets prefer to cater to Whites then it's probably because of money, potential reach and influence. If niche outlets cater to segmented groups it's probably because if they give that group what it wants, they'll have dedicated customers. I don't think there's any more to it.

Thanks for writing this post--it is wonderful to see you talking openly about racism--it is not only one-sided.
