Why do people think Finding Nemo was good?

Mar 8 2004

I was quite looking forward to watching this Pixar effort, especially after all the good things I had heard about it. What I loved most about Toy Story was the near realism of the effects, the storyline that appealed to both young and old and the humor used throughout. But Nemo was definately nowhere near as good. The bad bits: Repetitive jokes; cool dude turtles (I have seen that before somewhere) that just seemed lame; Dory, more of an attribute than a character who ceased to be annoying; every five minutes there was a dramatic yet perilous moment in which either of our main characters COULD die but most certainly wont; it all seemed overwritten, designed and manipulated (especially for children) — what happened to the weird yet wonderful tales of the 80s? A storyline not filled with generic, seemingly required, climaxes and heart felt moments. It’s also too colorful, the colors made me feel ill. I was bored throughout, knowing exactly what would happen, when it would happen and how it would happen — including the laughy comedy bits.

So why has this movie got so much attention. It’s #88 on imdb and is nominated for four oscars; isn’t it just Disney reworking a succesful formula with final results slightly lacking compared to previous occasions?
Im trying to work out what people liked about it, beyond “Nemo’s cute”. Did I miss something?

Never, and I mean, never, in my entire life, has a movie effect me the same way Finding Nemo did. It’s the best movie I’ve EVER seen, and I know I say that about alot movie, but I actually mean it this time. Never, did I ever come out of a theater after seeing a movie smile for the rest of the night. The movie just completely blew me away. I knew it was going to be good, but I had no clue what was in store for me when I saw it opening night. This movie is a work of pure genius. The animation is just beautiful, acting is awesome, the music fit everything that was going on. I could go on and on with this list, but I think I’ll stop there. What I liked mostly about this movie was that it didn’t lack anything at all. There was just the right amount of comedy, drama, suspense/action, and even romance. And it all blended together beautifully. This is why I gave this movie a full 10. Believe, me if I could give it more, I would.

Reviews such as this tell me nothing.

Enlighten me.

Time to make ground

Mar 8 2004

I’m tired and gradually being run down into the ground. It’s 10:25 and I am waiting to go off to my eleven o’clock seminar where I will be given most likely a specification for my design project. Something I am not particularly looking forward to. It is now Week 14 of the university calendar, wk 4 of the current term. I have a professional studies project to perform on car seats, to be finalized with a 6000 word report. I also have many computer programming assessments to do and panic over. Like modelling the movement of a piston in an engine. I’m tired.

Oh Im 19 now, had a birthday I did.
